What is MRgFUS?
MRgFUS stands for MR guided Focused UltraSound). It is a new and exceptionally gentle method to treat uterine fibroids. The technology combines highly focused ultrasound und Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to plan, regulate and control the ultrasound to destroy the fibroid tumours. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) helps the physician to target the fibroids and to control and optimize the treatment in realtime. |

How does MRgFUS work?
The focused ultrasound waves destroy the fibroid tissue by heating a small spot in the fibroid to a temperature of up to 60-80oC. The process is repeated until the tumour is destroyed. The fibroid disintegrates bit-by-bit, without affecting any of the other tissues around it. The fibroid shrinks and does not cause any more symptoms. The body disposes of destroyed tissue as part of normal function within the next weeks.
